Student On-Campus Dining Overview

While college dorm food, in general, is hardly appealing, you will most likely end your first semester feeling as if you couldn’t get enough of it. This is because CU provides its students with four different all-you-can-eat dining centers conveniently located in some of the most popular student dorms. In the past, CU’s dining halls were generally loathed by all, but recent renovations have impressed even the pickiest eaters. Among those changed, Farrand Dining Hall was transformed into the hip Alley@Farrand, offering a food-court atmosphere with a deli, pizza, paninis, salad bar, and much more.

Aside from the dorms, students on campus often venture to University Memorial Center (UMC), where they can grab a bite to eat at the food court that has everything from buffalo burgers and fries to a Mexican cantina. Surrounding the food court is Baby Doe’s convenience store, Subway, Wok & Roll Japanese take-out, Domino’s Pizza, Celestial Seasonings coffee and tea house, a smoothie cart, and a hot dog stand. There are a variety of meal plans available to students that can be customized according to each student’s needs. New freshmen are required to have either a 19- or 15-meal plan throughout their first two semesters in the dorms. Weekly menu postings can be found on the web at

Student Off-Campus Dining Overview

Looking over the list of dining options that Boulder has to offer, one might think they were in a city such as Los Angeles or New York. But don’t let the out-of-state license plates fool you, this is Colorado, and we just happen to have it that good. Depending on the appetite or mood, a multitude of Boulder restaurants, coffeehouses, delis, and juice joints remain connoisseurs in catering to a variety of cravings and needs. Early risers requiring a caffeine fix can easily purchase a latté and a freshly-baked muffin from at least three different establishments scattered throughout the Hill—adding only a few short minutes to a student’s daily walk to class. For lunch, Illegal Pete’s is a favorite, based on the daily long lines. Yet, if a gigantic five-dollar burrito doesn’t seem worth the wait, students simply continue towards Deli Zone or Salvaggio’s for a cheesesteak or turkey sub served on fresh-baked bread.

On the same block, students enjoy Happa’s happy hour, where appetites gather around the elevated sushi bar. Those who prefer their food cooked over a grill often choose Thunderbird for burgers, while others opt for healthy international cuisine. Pearl street area offers some of the finest in cuisine and is easily one of the most popular areas to visit for a nice dinner out. With The Kitchen being named best restaurant by The New York Times all the way to The Med having such a great variety of really tasty food for a price that won’t break the bank. There is a little something for everyone in order to have a nice dinner out on the town. Dig in!
 

Student Off-Campus Housing Overview

Though living in the dorms offers perks such as a convenient proximity to class and a consistent flow of socialization, most students reap these benefits and then move on. As sophomore year approaches, students anticipate renting their own place within walking distance of campus. The preferred area of choice for sophomores and juniors remains the neighborhood bordering the CU campus, which is known as the Hill. Pearl Street is a desired area for most juniors and 
seniors. These areas offer amenities of all sorts, including nearby restaurants, stores, libraries, and coffee shops. Due to its popularity, property management and local landlords rent available units at a high cost. But don’t get too 
discouraged—houses on Moorehead Street are very popular and offer low cost rent if you don’t mind a few roommates. Still, the demand for rentals continues at a steady increase as each year inducts a new set of students striving to live on their own.

The University offers off-campus student services that provide computerized listings of available rentals and students looking for roommates. Remember that while someone may make a great acquaintance, a day-to-day living situation is an entirely different matter. While the Hill is often first choice, you must understand that the predominant student population in this area equals loud weekends and late-night parties. Consider surrounding areas, such as Pearl Street and Moorehead Street, which provide a more peaceful living environment while remaining within close proximity to campus.

Summer Permits

The online summer permit sale will open on Tuesday, May 14, 2013 at 10:00a.m. MDT.  Students will need their IdentiKey and password as well as a vehicle registration to purchase a permit. Permits will be available for terms A,C and D (B term will be available Saturday, July 6.  It is the second 5 weeks of term D permit). Permit prices and available lots will be listed online. Permits will be available for pick up at Parking Services (1050 Regent Drive) beginning Monday, May 20.  A photo ID is required for pick-up. Parking Services' office hours are weekdays between 7:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m.

Commuters

The online sale opens on Tuesday, August 6, 2013 at 10 a.m. MDT. Students will need their CU Identikey and password as well as a vehicle registration to purchase

a permit. Permits will be mailed to the address provided through Tuesday, August 13. Permits ordered after August 13 will need to be picked up at our office (1050 Regent Dr.) between August 19 - August 23 during the hours of 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. Photo ID is required for pick-up. Permit pick-up will be located in a tent in front of our offices August 26- August 27. For the remainder of the semester permits can be picked up at our offices.

Campus Residents

The online sale on Thursday, August 8, 2013 at 10 a.m. MDT. Students will need their CU Identikey and password as well as a vehicle registration to purchase a permit.
